PART 6: Identities
The notes include an outline of the theory, a chapter summary, a glossary and ideas for further reading.
The slides are a PowerPoint presentation which matches the one used in the video.
The exercises contain examples to analyse using the theory.
This part of the course examines identities, which are stories about what it means to be a particular kind of person. Two contrasting examples are discussed. The first is the construction of un-ecological identities in Men's Health magazine, where the ideal man is represented as a competitive, hugely muscled, meat-eating consumer. This is contrasted with ecological identities in new nature writing, where the human is portrayed as being part of a larger community of life.
The video illustrates identities with an example. Click left to download it and right to watch it on Vimeo.
